The Dojo - (The Japanese word 'dojo' is translated in English as 'training hall'.)
 
The Kanto Sho Karate Club is built in the tradition of the Japanese Dojo. It is approximately 1600 sq ft of hardwood floors and there are men's and women's change rooms available. All required protective equipment, punching bags and fitness equipment are supplied by the Dojo.
As with all Dojo's there is an etiquette which must be adhered to.

The KANTO SHO KARATE CLUB ETIQUETTE
  • NO SHOES ON THE DOJO FLOOR.
  • IF SHOES TOUCH FLOOR CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELF.
  • NO GUM OR JEWELLERY IN CLASS.
  • NO HORSE PLAY OR LOUD TALK.
  • BOW UPON ENTERING AND EXITING DOJO FLOOR.
  • ALL BLACK BELT INSTRUCTORS TO BE ADDRESSED AS SENSEI DURING CLASS.
  • ALL GREEN THROUGH BROWN BELT INSTRUCTORS TO BE ADDRESSED AS SEMPAI DURING CLASS.
  • STUDENTS ATTAINING THE RANK OF GREEN BELT AND UP ARE EXPECTED TO TEACH IN CLASS A MINIMUM OF ONCE PER MONTH AND PREFERABLY AS MUCH AS TIME WILL PERMIT.
  • TEACHING TEACHES THE TEACHER.
  • RAISE HANDS TO ASK QUESTIONS DURING CLASS.
  • TALKING IN CLASS KEPT TO A MINIMUM.
  • NO RUNNING ON DOJO FLOOR (UNLESS PART OF EXERCISES).
  • FINGER AND TOE NAILS KEPT TO A MINIMUM.
  • KARATE GI (UNIFORM) MUST BE KEPT CLEAN.
  • ASK FOR PERMISSION PRIOR TO USING EQUIPMENT IN DOJO.
  • PLEASE TURN OFF CELLULAR PHONES.
This is a traditional dojo following the examples of the teachings of our instructors throughout time, both in Canada and Japan - please treat the space with respect.
