I started
training in 1995 at age
7. My mom put me in karate because I was being bullied at daycare. Karate
provided me with discipline and helped build my self-confidence as a child
I started teaching when I was 12 and had achieved my green belt.
I obtained my black belt at 17 years old in 2005.
I have competed in many local tournaments and traveled to Alaska to compete in
the Alaska State Championships. I placed first in kumite (sparring).
My
personal feelings towards karate are:
I love teaching.
Teaching students has helped me refine my own training, by
getting back to the basics and breaking things down. It's an honor to be able
to teach something that has made such a difference in my life. By teaching, I
hope that karate will have an effect on someone else's life, the way it has
affected mine.
Karate is a great stress reliever.
When I come to class, everything that is going on in my life is left at the
door. No matter how much is going on, I always leave the dojo with a clear
head.
